HJTEP Youth Ameya Shiva Bikes to Raise Money for Education
Ameya Shiva, Age 17, a rising senior at Collegiate School in New York, participated in a 100-mile bike ride on September 6, 2014, to raise funds for the HJTEP education program. Starting from Central Park, his ride traversed the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, covering a distance of one hundred miles, capturing the quintessential diversity of New York City and passing through some very picturesque locations.
Ameya has played tennis at HJTEP for the past seven years. Starting early 2011, Ameya has volunteered to teach math and science to middle and high school students to enhance their academic performance. Asked about his teaching experiences, Ameya said: “I just love it. It's a lot of fun to teach kids who you know well from the tennis court. On their part the kids are motivated to learn and the friendly setting makes the process very productive. The purpose of my undertaking the one hundred mile bike ride is to raise funds as well as raise awareness about education in HJTEP."
